Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Our Commitments

One of the major goals of the Restoration & Renewal Programme is to make the Houses of Parliament more accessible so everyone can participate equally in our democracy. This starts with our working culture. We are committed to embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion in our culture so all staff of all backgrounds can thrive working in the programme.

On this page we'll share some of the commitments we've made to make the programme a more inclusive place to work.

Disability Confident

Becoming Disability Confident organisations helps us to plan and achieve greater inclusion for disabled staff from the recruitment stage through to their retention and professional development. Disability Confident is a standard established by the Department of Work and Pensions with the aim to encourage employers to think differently about disability and take action. We look forward to working towards Disability Confident Employer status.

Race at Work Charter

We are committed to improving the outcomes for BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicity) employees in our workplace. By signing this Charter, we are publicly committing to:

  • Appointing an Executive Sponsor for race
  • Capturing data and publicising progress
  • Ensuring zero tolerance of harassment and bullying
  • Making equality in the workplace the responsibility of all leaders and managers
  • Taking action that supports ethnic minority career progression.

Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation to those who serve or who have served, and their families, which ensures that those citizens are treated fairly and not disadvantaged in their day-to-day lives. The Covenant relies on the people, communities, and businesses of the UK to actively support it in order to make a difference and the R&R programme now joins an ever growing cohort of business across the United Kingdom making this commitment.

The Index is a benchmark of best policy and practice in workplace wellbeing designed to celebrate the good work employers are doing to promote positive mental health.
