Four new non-executives have been appointed to the board leading the delivery of the Restoration and Renewal of the Houses of Parliament, completing its membership. 

The Houses of Parliament Restoration and Renewal Programme has been established to tackle the significant work that needs to be done to protect the Palace of Westminster and ensure it can continue to serve as home to the UK Parliament in the 21st century and beyond.   

In April this year a Sponsor Body was set up, accountable to Parliament, to set the scope, budget and timescale of the work, and oversee a Delivery Authority that will execute the work. The Delivery Authority was set up as a company limited by guarantee earlier this month. 

Anne Baldock, Stephen Duckworth, Anne McMeel, and Neil Sachdev took up their positions as non-executive directors of the Delivery Authority Board last week.  

Their arrival follows the appointment last year of Mike Brown, currently TFL Commissioner, as the Chair of the Board, and David Goldstone, as Chief Executive of the Delivery Authority.  They join Simon Wright and Simon Thurley, who had already been appointed by the Sponsor Board, and Matt White, who is the R&R Programme Director, in making up the full membership of the DA board.

“With the Delivery Authority board now up and running alongside the Sponsor Body, I am confident that we will be able to save the Palace of Westminster and create a safe, working home for Parliament for generations to come.”

The two-tier approach to the governance of the Programme, which was used successfully for the 2012 London Olympics, was endorsed by both Houses of Parliament in a resolution in 2018 and passed into law last October 2019.  Both the Sponsor Body and Delivery Authority will ensure value for money at every stage.
